Bio

Dr. Erin Nuzzo is a 2013 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, where she was recognized by the American College of Physicians with a Certificate of Merit for Outstanding Achievement in Internal Medicine.  After receiving her MD, she moved to Boston for her residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, where she created and implemented a simulation-based curriculum and assessment of ultrasound-guided central venous catheter placement for internal medicine house staff and fellows, as well as examining pyruvate dehydrogenase activity in septic individuals as a potential mediator of lactic acidosis. She started her fellowship in pulmonary/critical care here at University of Pittsburgh in 2016.  In her spare time, Dr. Nuzzo enjoys running, hiking, and cooking.

Research Interests

Dr. Nuzzo is currently looking at mitochondrial dysfunction in sepsis and how it may relate to delirium with her research mentor Tim Girard, MD in the Department of Critical Care.  She is also interested in medical education as it pertains to pulmonary and critical care.
