Recruitment 2014-2015

Congratulations to this year's tremendous residency recruitment team, including the Office of Medical Education personnel and the faculty, chief residents, and housestaff members who contributed to the recruitment effort.

Program leaders included John J. Reilly, Jr., MD, former Chair of the Department of Medicine; Wishwa Kapoor, MD, MPH, Vice Chair for Education; Shanta Zimmer, MD, Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at UPMC Montefiore; Thomas Grau, MD, Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at UPMC Shadyside; Alda Maria Gonzaga, MD, MS, Director of the Medicine-Pediatrics Training Program at UPMC Montefiore; Julie McCausland, MD, MS, Director of the Transitional Year Program at UPMC Montefiore; Gary Tabas, MD, Director of the Transitional Year Program at UPMC Shadyside; and William Lamb, DO, Director of the Osteopathic Internship Program at UPMC Shadyside.

We are especially grateful for the team effort that took place to make this one of the most successful recruitment seasons ever.

At UPMC Montefiore:

  • The Categorical Program had 3,583 applicants, of whom 322 were interviewed, 316 were ranked, and 34 were matched.
  • The International Scholars Track had 601 applicants, of whom 35 were interviewed, 19 were ranked, and 6 were matched.
  • The Medicine-Pediatrics Training Program had 296 applicants, of whom 64 were interviewed, 55 were ranked, and 4 were matched.
  • The Preliminary Program had 841 applicants, of whom 64 were interviewed, 61 were ranked, and 7 were matched.
  • The Transitional Year Program had 617 applicants, of whom 63 were interviewed, 57 were ranked for Transitional and 5 were matched, 42 were ranked for Transitional/Radiology and 2 were matched, 42 were ranked for Transitional/Anesthesiology and 1 was matched.

At UPMC Shadyside:

  • The Categorical Program had 1,202 applicants, of whom 102 were interviewed, 77 were ranked, and 8 were matched.
  • The Osteopathic Internship Program had 75 applicants, of whom 25 were interviewed, 19 were ranked and 4 were matched.
  • The Transitional Year Program had 519 applicants, of whom 54 were interviewed, 54 were ranked, and 6 were matched.
