Overview

The University of Pittsburgh Sleep Medicine Fellowship offers a 1-year ACGME accredited clinical program based in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine. The University of Pittsburgh and University of Pittsburgh Medical Center are pioneers in sleep medicine. Our sleep fellowship has trained well over 50 clinicians that have varied in their primary specialty certification from pulmonary to otolaryngology. Sleep Medicine at Pitt was one of the first 3 clinical centers accredited in sleep medicine by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. We generally support two fellows at the UPMC and Veterans Affairs Hospital. We have maintained a high faculty to fellow ratio per year to allow for plenty of opportunities to teach and learn from experienced faculty.

The core mission of this fellowship is to provide a comprehensive and multidisciplinary clinical training for the Sleep Medicine leaders of the future. A secondary goal is to provide training and experience in scholarly activities to promote interest in a career in academic medicine.

This multidisciplinary program collaborates with faculty from psychiatry, psychology, pulmonary, neurology, pediatrics, family medicine, otolaryngology, and dentistry to provide a robust, well-rounded experience. The versatility of our faculty is what makes our teaching experience strong and unique for our fellows.

This program also has a strong affiliation with the Center for Sleep and Circadian Science T32 Research Program based in the Department of Psychiatry.

The primary training sites are the Veterans Affairs Pittsburgh Healthcare System (University Drive Campus) located in Oakland and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (Presbyterian and Montefiore Campus). Additional training sites include, but not limited to: UPMC Comprehensive Lung Center, UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, and UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital.

We participate in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) for Sleep Medicine. Please use the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) to apply.
