Professional Recognition


Gary Tabas, MD, FACP, received the 2015 American College of Physicians (ACP) Laureate Award for Western Pennsylvania at the ACP Awards Dinner in Hershey, PA, on December 5, 2015. The Laureate Award honors Fellows and Masters of the ACP who have demonstrated abiding commitment to excellence in medical care, education, or research, as well as service to their community, their ACP chapter, and the ACP as a whole.

Adam Gordon, MD, MPH, and Walid Gellad, MD, MPH, were recently published in the Journal of Addiction Medicine for their paper titled, “Patterns and Quality of Buprenorphine Opioid Agonist Treatment in a Large Medicaid Program.” This innovative paper was selected by the American Society of Addiction Medicine as one of the top 10 highest-clicked articles in the field of addiction medicine in 2015.

D. Scott Miller, MD, MA, has met the requirements to be a Fellow of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. The convocation for the class of 2015 will be held in March 2016 at the Annual Assembly in Chicago.

Gregory Bump, MD, was presented with the 7th Annual Academic Medicine Awards for Excellence in Reviewing at a reception and award ceremony held jointly by Academic Medicine and MedEdPORTAL during the Association of American Medical Colleges Annual Meeting in Baltimore in November 2015.

Faculty Selected for Pittsburgh Magazine's 2016 Top Doctors

Media Coverage

Adam Gordon, MD, MPH, served on a Food and Drug Administration advisory panel for a new method of delivering medication for opioid addiction. Parts of his testimony were highlighted in articles for NPR and MedPageToday.

John Blosnich, MD, MPH, co-wrote an editorial on a research study showing a relationship between child abuse and military suicides for which he was interviewed by Reuters for an article titled, "Child Abuse may Play Role in Military Suicides."

Walid Gellad, MD, MPH, was a featured panelist for the Public Health Care Forum Series Part 2: "The Specialty Drug War: Cost vs. Cure," sponsored by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette in October 2015. You can view the panel discussion here. Dr. Gellad was also interviewed by NPR for a story published in November 2015 on the increase in prescription drug use over the last decade.

C. Bernie Good, MD, MPH, and Walid Gellad, MD, MPH, co-wrote an editorial on a study published in JAMA Internal Medicine on the risks of prescribing off-label drugs for which they were interviewed by The Wall Street Journal for a story published in November 2015.

Lauren Broyles, PhD, RN, and the Homeless Veterans’ Opinions of Integrated Care Environments (H-VOICE) study team received substantial coverage by local media outlets, including the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Pittsburgh Tribune Review, Pittsburgh City Paper, KDKA, WTAE, and WPXI regarding their Veterans Day exhibit of their H-VOICE study titled, “Homeless Veterans’ Opinions of Integrated Care Environments: A Photo-Narrative Study.” The exhibit, which features photos taken by homeless veterans, as well as their commentaries on the photos, will be displayed at the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens in the Veterans Flower Show in June 2016.
