VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System (VAPHS) received the Gold Chairman's Award

The Addiction Triage for Homeless: Enhancing VA Medical Homes (ANTHEM) program led by Adam Gordon, MD, MPH, and Lauren Broyles, PhD, RN, at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System received the Gold Chairman's Award at the recent Pittsburgh Federal Executive Board Excellence in Government Awards Ceremony. Implementation of the ANTHEM program for a panel of 109 Veterans has resulted in a 40% reduction in emergency department (ED) use, a 63.5% reduction in inpatient admissions, an estimated cost savings of $498,176 from deferred ED visits and inpatient stays, and an estimated enhanced reimbursement of $784,800 for the Veteranís Equitable Resource Allocation. The VAPHS program was ranked first among the 36 homeless patient-aligned care teams throughout the country in reducing inappropriate hospitalizations.
