Amber Barnato, MD, MPH, MS, received the Distinguished Mentor Award, Institute for Clinical Research Education, University of Pittsburgh, 2013.

Maggie Benson, MD, received the Chief Resident Recognition Award, University of Pittsburgh, 2013.

Jodie Bryk, MD, received the Chief Resident Recognition Award, University of Pittsburgh, 2013.

Esa Davis, MD, MPH, received the New Pittsburgh Courier Women of Excellence Award, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, 2013 .

Kristian Feterik, MD, received the Outstanding Teaching Attending Award from the Interns, University of Pittsburgh, 2013.

Michael Fine, MD, MSc, is this year's recipient of the Outstanding Alumni Researcher Award, from Drexel University College of Medicine, 2013. This award was established to recognize graduates of the Drexel University College of Medicine or any of the predecessor schools for significant accomplishment and excellence in one or more of the following areas: clinical practice, research, teaching, mentorship, or entrepreneurship, 2013.

Adam J. Gordon, MD, MPH, is the winner of the 2013 Excellence in Mentorship Award from the Association for Medical Education and Research in Substance Abuse (AMERSA). This award is given to an individual who has provided outstanding mentoring to junior faculty and/or trainees, resulting in the faculty member's or trainees' increased scholastic productivity and career advancement in the area of substance abuse education or research, 2013.

Rosanne Granieri, MD, received the Outstanding Teaching Attending Award from the Residents, University of Pittsburgh, 2013.

Thomas Grau, MD, received the Outstanding Teacher Attending Award from the Residents, University of Pittsburgh, 2013.

Rachel Hess, MD, MS, received the Outstanding Alumna Award, Institute for Clinical Research Education, University of Pittsburgh, 2013.

Katherine Willoughby, MD, received the Thomas O'Toole Teaching Award, University of Pittsburgh, 2013.

Honors and Achievements

Sonya Borrero, MD, MS, Women's Health Presentation Award, Society of General Internal Medicine (Women and Medicine Task Force, Annual Meeting of the SGIM, Denver, Colorado, 2013.

Lauren Broyles, PhD, RN, was elected Secretary of Association for Medical Education and Research in Substance Abuse (AMERSA) in June. Lauren had previously served as elected member at large on the executive committee, 2013.

Julie McCausland MD, MS, and Deborah M. Simak RN, MNEd, received the 2013 Association for Hospital Medical Education – AHME Poster Committee's First Place for their Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Educational Innovation poster at the National Conference. Las Vegas, Nevada, 2013.

Jonathan Lee, MD, received the Mack Lipkin Sr. Associate Member Award, at the 36th Annual Meeting of the Society of General Internal Medicine. This award is given to the student, resident, or fellow for outstanding scientific presentation of their research. Annual Meeting of the SGIM, Denver, Colorado, 2013.

Esa Davis, MD, MPH, has been inducted Fellow into American Academy of Family Physicians, 2013.

Doug Landsittel, PhD, has been nominated to serve as a member of the Kidney, Nutrition, Obesity and Diabetes Study Section for the Center for Scientific Review for a four year term beginning in July 1, 2013. He was also invited to serve on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Clinical Oncology for a three year term, which will also begin in July, 2013.

Scholarly Activities

Lauren Broyles, PhD, RN, co-authored the joint position statement released by the International Nurses Society on Addictions and the Emergency Nurses Association on "Expanded Roles and Responsibilities for Nurses in Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) for Alcohol Use."

Esa Davis, MD, MPH, received a secondary appointment in Clinical and Translational Science, University of Pittsburgh.

Walid Gellad, MD, MPH, as a Co-Theme Leader, played a key role in developing the Disparities and Health Equity program for the 2013 AcademyHealth Annual Research Meeting attended by hundreds of investigators, clinical leaders, and policy makers from around the country.
