Clinical Practice

Outpatient Clinics

Division faculty members are actively involved in seeing outpatients at the University Arthritis and Autoimmunity Center, the Oakland VAMC clinics and at Magee-Women's Hospital. Division faculty serve a tertiary care role, seeing complicated autoimmune disease patients referred by other rheumatologists and internists, but also evaluate patients with more common forms of rheumatic disease. There are two designated specialty clinics: the Scleroderma Clinic is a national referral center and the Lupus Clinic serves as a regional referral center.

UPMC Arthritis Network

The clinical component of the Arthritis Institute is the UPMC Arthritis Network. The Network includes the Division faculty practice described above and two additional UPMC affiliated large rheumatology practices.

Inpatient Service

Following a national trend, fewer patients with rheumatic diseases are hospitalized at UPMC. University faculty serve as Attending Physician for inpatients and also provide inpatient consultations. Consults are seen at many UPMC-affiliated institutions including UPMC Shadyside, Magee-Women's Hospital, WPIC and Oakland VAMC.
