Welcome to the Division of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology

The Division has a tradition of excellence in patient care, education and research for the last 50 years.

Our clinical activities emphasize care of both common and rare rheumatic diseases. We have outpatient clinics devoted to osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, polymyositis, dermatomyositis, vasculitis and systemic sclerosis. Our reputation is evidenced by a ranking of #12 in the 2005 U.S. News and World Report Survey.

The Division has a very strong educational activities program for medical students, residents, fellows, and faculty. We co-direct the Immunology in Health and Disease for first year medical students and offer a fourth year elective in Rheumatology. Two of our faculty members have recently won Dean's awards for their teaching excellence and contributions to medical student education.

Faculty members are involved in both clinical and laboratory research. Our research programs are centered in the clinical areas noted above and include the disciplines of clinical epidemiology, health services and laboratory research. We have many collaborative links with other programs in the School of Medicine and the Graduate School of Public Health. Approximately one third of our fellowship graduates during the last 5 years have elected an academic career in teaching/patient care or research.
