Education and Training
Education
B.S. - Biology, University of Pittsburgh, 1970
M.D. Magna cum Laude, AOA, 2nd in Class, Medical College of Pennsylvania, 1977
Internal Medicine Residency, University of Pittsburgh Health Center, 1980
Nephrology Fellowship, University of Pittsburgh Health Center, 1982
Research Interest
My research focus is on improving the lives of patients with chronic kidney disease, with a particular emphasis on patients on peritoneal dialysis. Our group was the first to use antibiotic cream applied to the exit site of the peritoneal catheter as part of routine care to prevent catheter related infections. This approach has been widely adopted as part of clinical practice.
Clinical Interest
My clinical interest is focused on patients with chronic kidney disease of all stages and causes. I also care for patients with polycystic kidney disease and those with hypertension.
Educational Interest
I teach medical students, residents in internal medicine and nephrology fellows. I am also involved in courses for pre medical students.
