Research Interest
Dr. Kullmann’s research focuses on understanding cellular mechanisms underlying various voiding dysfunctions, finding new targets for treatment of these conditions as well as developing and characterizing animal models for voiding dysfunctions. She utilizes a combination of in vivo and in vitro methodologies including cystometry, metabolism cages, electrophysiology, single cell imaging, confocal microscopy and immunohistochemistry, to investigate how different components of the urinary bladder, the urothelium, smooth muscle and neurons are affected by pathology. Recent projects are focused on urothelial hyperplasia and regeneration after spinal cord injury in mice and changes in urothelial cell properties in animal models of interstitial cystitis.
