Research Interest
Dr. Owusu-Ansah's primary research interest is in translating novel or repurposed therapeutics into clinical settings to prevent or halt the progression of complications of sickle cell disease. Her other interests are in global health and implementation research, specifically identifying strategies to improve access to state-of-the-art medical care for individuals with benign hematologic disorders in different demographic regions of the world. Up to 50% of her research effort is spent in Ghana, West Africa.
She is the Principal Investigator of an Investigator-initiated Phase Ib trial of NVX-508 in adults with sickle cell disease being conducted at the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, University of Ghana in Accra, Ghana (ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier NCT03013426)
Clinical Interest
Dr. Owusa-Ansah is a pediatric hematologist and oncologist who serves as a teaching and attending physician on the Inpatient and Consult hematology service, Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC, 7 weeks year and is Co-Director of the sickle cell team.
Educational Interest
Her passion is to make the study and practice of benign hematology interesting, straightforward and relevant to medical students, residents and fellows through interactive lectures, problem solving and teaching rounds on the inpatient service.
