Applying to Our Program

General Application Process

The Gastroenterology Fellowship Training Program will be accepting applications through the Association of American Medical Colleges ERAS Fellowships for 6 positions beginning in 2010.  We will also be participating in The Match through the NRMP’s  Medical Subspecialties Matching Program (MSMP).  The NRMP and ERAS are independent programs that work jointly to ease the application process for both programs and applicants.  An application submitted through ERAS Fellowships required by our program.  A general overview of the application process may also be viewed by clicking on the relevant links above or by visiting the American Gastroenterological Association’s Education and Training site.

All fellowship applications and supporting material are due no later than JANUARY 9, 2009.

International Medical Graduates

The University of Pittsburgh fellowship programs sponsor international medical graduates on J-1 clinical visas through the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG). Additional information may be obtained by contacting the University of Pittsburgh Graduate Medical Education Office at (412) 647-5819.

Applying via ERAS Fellowships

Request Your EDFO Token

The first step is to contact the ERAS Fellowship Document Office (EFDO) to get an electronic EDFO Token, a unique identifier with which to access the ERAS Fellowships system. EFDO serves as your "designated dean's office" and functions as the central processing office for fellowship application materials. The EDFO essentially collects the supporting materials of your application (photo, medical school transcripts, etc.), prepares them in electronic format, and then sends them to ERAS Fellowships to be included with your ERAS Fellowships Common Application Form. The fee for requesting the EDFO Token is $75.

Register for ERAS Fellowships at the MyERAS website

Once you receive your electronic EDFO Token, you will be able to register for ERAS Fellowships on the MyERAS website. Once registered, you will be able to complete the ERAS Fellowships Common Application Form (CAF), select the programs to which you would like your CAF and supporting documents sent, and assign your Letters of Recommendation to those fellowship programs, starting in November, 2007. Once your CAF is complete and all of your supporting documents have been submitted to the EDFO and received by ERAS Fellowships, you will then pay a a fee to apply up to 10 programs. Additional charges will apply for application to more than 10 programs.

The Interview

Due to the competitiveness of our Program, we expect in excess of 400 applications for six fellowship positions starting in July, 2010. As such, interviews will be extended to a select number of applicants in January, 2009. Interviews will be scheduled between February and April, 2009. If you are invited to interview with our program, you will receive detailed information from us regarding the interview day. The Match

Our program will participate in The Match through the NRMP's Medical Subspecialties Matching Program (MSMP). Registration for The Match begins on January 2009. Rank order list submission begins for programs and applicants in April. The deadline for applicants and programs to certify their rank order list is in early June and "Match Day" takes place in mid-June.
