Dr. Vijay Singh treats patients with general gastroenterologic problems and specialzies in diseases of the pancreas, with a focus on acute pancreatitis, a disease for which there is not a specific treatment. He works to address the mechanisms through which the pancreas becomes damaged during pancreatitis and the relation of this specific organ damage to systemic inflammation. Dr. Singh also conducts basic science research to explore the mechanisms of pancreatic acinar cell death and inflammation, searching for scientifically sound, safe and clinically relevant therapies for pancreatic diseases.
Dr. Singh was trained at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN and has conducted previous pancreas research at both the Mayo Clinic and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center / Harvard Medical School. He now cares for patients at UPMC Presbyterian and UPMC McKeesport Hospitals.
