Profile
Dr. Rabinovitz’s research involves the treatment of chronic viral hepatitis. He is presently the Principal Investigator of the University of Pittsburgh site for two multicenter clinical trials. (i) Pharmacokinetics and safety of Peginterferon alfa-2a and CopegusTM combination therapy in patients with chronic hepatitis C and various degrees of renal impairment. (ii) Comparison of Peg Intron plus Ribavirin vs. Pegasys plus Copegus in previously untreated adult subjects with chronic hepatitis C infected with genotype 1. An additional research project is to investigate the efficacy and safety of oral Tolvaptan in patients with hyponatremia. Dr. Rabinovitz is also involved in a project investigating the effects of gastric by-pass surgery for morbid obesity on the liver. Other projects include drug metabolism in patients with chronic liver disease especially chronic hepatitis C, the effects of interferon on patient who fail previous treatments and in patients with cirrhosis.
