Dr. Palmer has attained international attention for research focused on health outcomes of hospitalization and interdisciplinary geriatric assessment in hospitals and emergency departments. He was Principal Investigator of a clinical trial that established the effectiveness of a medical unit for acute care for elders (ACE Unit). His publications include original research publications, geriatric textbooks, book chapters, and scientific reviews. He is Associate Editor of the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society. Dr Palmer provides consultative services to older adults at the UPMC Benedum Geriatric Center at UPMC Montefiore Hospital.
