Research Interest
A Professor, Dr Weiner’s research focuses on chronic pain. She is PI of 2 VA Merit Review studies: 1) a multisite pilot study designed to improve management of low back pain in older adults; and a 2) multisite prospective cohort study to ascertain predictors of outcome in veterans undergoing decompressive laminectomy for lumbar spinal stenosis. She is also PI of a GRECC-funded pilot study to develop a mobile application to help PCPs evaluate and manage chronic non-cancer pain. She collaborates on NIH-funded studies of 1) mindfulness meditation for the treatment of chronic low back pain in older adults (with Natalia Morone, Division of General Internal Medicine), 2) treatment of co-morbid depression and chronic low back pain in primary care (with Jordan Karp, Department of Psychiatry), and 3) evaluation of the contribution of hip osteoarthritis to pain and function in older adults with low back pain (with Gregory Hicks, University of Delaware).
Clinical Interest
Dr. Weiner sees patients for pain related issues at the Benedum Geriatric Clinic located in Montefiore Hospital.
