Section of Palliative Care and Medical Ethics
The Section of Palliative Care and Medical Ethics is dedicated to providing whole-person patient-centered care for patients with serious life-limiting illness. Our teams manage and treat symptoms, facilitate complex medical decision making, and provide psychosocial support to help patients and their loved ones achieve the best possible quality of life throughout their illness.
We focus on supporting patients at any age and stage of serious illness and their loved ones while continuing to pursue disease focused therapies. Our team works collaboratively with other health care professionals throughout UPMC to provide the support and services that reduce the stress and suffering that can accompany serious illness.
