Dr. Schwarz is an internationally recognized health services researcher who focuses on women's reproductive health and access to contraception and preconception counseling. Her work on the effects of lactation on maternal health was recognized by Obstetrics & Gynecology in 2009 as one of the journal's most highly rated manuscripts with a $5000 Pitkin Award. Recently, her translational research has focused on the use of information technology to improve provision of preconception counseling. Dr. Schwarz currently serves as Senior Medical Expert in Reproductive Health for the US Department of Veterans Affairs, Associate Editor of Journal Watch Womens Health, and as a member of the FDA's Advisory Committee on Reproductive Health Drugs. She is a Fellow of the Society of Family Planning, and past-chair of the Society of General Internal Medicine's Taskforce on Women's Health.
