Welcome to the Division of Cardiology

When it comes to clinical excellence, results, correct diagnosis, and effective therapy are what matter. The greatest measures of academic excellence are the discoveries and innovations produced by an institution's researchers and by the young investigators they train. These qualities are pursued and embodied by UPMC's Heart and Vascular Institute (HVI). HVI has grown into an international leader in the field of cardiovascular medicine. With more than 70 physicians and scientists located in facilities throughout Western Pennsylvania, HVI combines outstanding community-based care with the most advanced technology and treatments available. UPMC cardiologists perform approximately 20,000 cath procedures and 6,500 EP procedures annually. HVI faculty operate a training program that graduates 10 general cardiology fellows per year (3 year program) as well as subspecialty clinical fellowships in Interventional Cardiology, Congestive Heart Failure/Transplantation and Electrophysiology. In addition, a variety of specialized research fellowships concentrating in molecular biology, molecular imaging techniques, and clinical epidemiology are performed by trainees committed to academic and investigative careers. Total sponsored project funding for HVI research efforts exceeds $6.5 million annually and includes studies in gene therapy, advanced cardiac imaging modalities and the epidemiology of heart disease in women.

HVI serves as a resource for patients, families, students and physicians. By pursuing excellence in clinical care, research, and education, HVI faculty are inspired to discover and deliver the innovations needed now and in the future. This website is meant to serve the community, and your comments and feedback are always welcome.
