Research Interest
Dr. Wong's research interests include the comparative effectiveness of
cardiovascular imaging modalities, as well as the role of a novel cardiac MRI
biomarker of diffuse myocardial fibrosis in cardiovascular diseases, including
hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. His work has been published in major scientific
journals, including Circulation and the European Heart Journal. He also
participates as a site investigator in several multi-center research protocols,
while serving as a scientific reviewer for numerous journals, an American Heart
Association grant review committee, and imaging society working groups.
Clinical Interest
Dr. Wong focuses his clinical efforts on multimodality cardiovascular imaging,
combining his background in echocardiography and nuclear cardiology with
advanced training in cardiac MRI. He is the associate director of the
Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Laboratory at UPMC Presbyterian. He
helped establish and currently directs the UPMC Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy
Center at UPMC Presbyterian - one of approximately 40 such centers in the
United States - where patients receive expert care from a multi-disciplinary
team. Dr. Wong continues to maintain a general cardiology practice at the
Magee Women's Hospital Heart Center.
Educational Interest
Dr. Wong directs CLRES 2108: Patient Registrics and Electronic Health Records
in CER at the Institute for Clinical Research Education at the University of
Pittsburgh. This 2 month course provides an overview of best practices in
designing and using clinical registries for observational research.
