Research Interest
Dr. Soman’s research focuses on the use of radionuclide-based imaging techniques in cardiac diseases, particularly heart failure. Current interests include the use of myocardial SPECT imaging for left ventricular dyssynchrony assessment, an area in which his group has contributed seminal work (Mati Friehling, Young Investigator Award, ASNC 2010; Saurabh Malhotra, Young Investigator Award, ASNC 2013).
Clinical Interest
Dr. Soman practices clinical cardiology, nuclear cardiology and echocardiography at the UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, with areas of focus in the noninvasive diagnosis and risk stratification of coronary artery disease, heart failure and valvular disease, and the management of cardiac disease in patients with chronic kidney disease. Under his direction, the nuclear cardiology laboratory performs high-volume, state-of-the art imaging, and is a national leader in clinical research including the use of a new generation, solid-state SPECT camera and innovative imaging protocols that have enabled significant reductions in radiation dose to patients.
He was selected “Best Doctors of Pittsburgh” in 2013 and 2014.
Educational Interest
Clinical cardiology, bedside medicine, clinical decision making, image interpretation
