James H. Dauber, M.D., is Emeritus Professor of Medicine and former Medical Director of The Simmons Center. Dr. Dauber received his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College and completed an internship and residency at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Mo., and a fellowship in pulmonary medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Dauber was the Medical Director of Lung Transplantation at the University of Pittsburgh from 1986-2002, and Division Chief of Pulmonary Services at the Veterans Administration Medical Center from 1982-1995. He is board-certified in internal medicine, pulmonary disease, and critical care medicine. He has published more than 280 articles, abstracts, and book chapters.
Dr. Dauber is the former the medical director of the Dorothy P. and Richard P. Simmons Center for Interstitial Lung Disease. He was in charge of all clinical research in the center was the PI on several drug studies. Dr. Dauber’s research focused on translational studies to identify unique biomarkers of disease activity in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and other interstitial lung diseases, and studies of gene expression profiling in lung and peripheral blood in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
Dr. Dauber enjoys teaching especially medical students at the University of Pittsburgh.
