Regularly Scheduled Conferences:

Monday

Fellow Research in Progress Conference is held every second, third, and fourth Monday of the month from noon to 1:00 PM. Fellows give a formal presentation of their research.

Tuesday

PACCM Basic & Translational Research in Lung Disease Conference is held every Tuesday from noon to 1:00 p.m. This conference provides pulmonary faculty and staff an opportunity to hear speakers from throughout the University environment outline their current biomedical research efforts in order to facilitate expanded collaborations.

Wednesday

Physiology Conference and Sleep Medicine Conference are held every other week at noon.

Journal Club is hosted by a faculty member one evening every month.

Thursday

Case Conference is held every Thursday from Noon to 1:00 PM. During this conference, a faculty member is called on to discuss a case presented by a fellow, and a fellow is asked to discuss a case presented by a faculty member.

Friday

Radiology Conference is held every Friday from 7:00 to 8:00 AM. During this conference, Dr. Carl Fuhrman, Chief of Thoracic Imaging, reviews the radiographic manifestations of lung disease.

Core Conference consists of faculty lectures, which cover the entire spectrum of pulmonary and critical care medicine.

Pulmonary Grand Rounds (PGR) is held each Friday from Noon to 1:00 PM. PGR and consists of lectures by external and internal speakers.

Courses:

Fundamentals of Research
This 2-week course provides a comprehensive overview of concepts in laboratory, clinical, and translational research and includes a hands-on laboratory experience.

Critical Care Ultrasound
This course provides didactic and hands-on instruction in the use of ultrasound to assess cardiac function and intravascular volume, diagnose abdominal bleeding, pleural and pericardial effusions, and pneumothorax, and insert intravascular and pleural catheters..

Management of the Difficult Airway
This course uses sophisticated mannequins at the WISER Simulation Center to teach fellows how to manage difficult airways and airway emergencies..

Pulmonary Physiology and Pathophysiology
This course provides fellows with an in-depth review of pulmonary physiology and pathophysiology. It also focuses on the applied physiology of pulmonary function testing, exercise testing, hemodynamic monitoring, and mechanical ventilation.

Pittsburgh International Lung Conference is held annually.
This conference brings together internationally recognized authorities in specific areas of lung disease.


Robert M. Rogers Lectureship
is held annually in honor of Dr. Robert M. Rogers, the former chief of the PACCM Division.
