Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine

Dr. Mark Gladwin As Division Chief of The Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine (PACCM) at the University of Pittsburgh, I would like to welcome you to our website.  As highlighted below, our Division features robust research, education, and clinical patient care programs in Lung Disease and Critical Care Medicine.

PACCM is deeply committed to a mission of providing the highest quality, compassionate patient care for patients with lung disease, to mentoring and training medical students, residents, fellows and young faculty, and to research and scientific discovery. PACCM possesses strong translational programs of clinical and research excellence in asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, acute lung injury, interstitial lung disease, sleep medicine, cystic fibrosis, lung transplantation, pulmonary vascular disease, critical care medicine and the functional genomics of lung diseases.

These branches of Institutes and Centers have created a formidable team of physicians who have been recognized repeatedly by their peers for their caring efforts. Because of this commitment to respiratory disorders, we were recently ranked 6th in the nation according to US News and World Report. We applaud the outstanding leadership of our Comprehensive Lung Center programs, as well as our "2012 Top Doctors": Charles W. Atwood, MD (not pictured); Maria M. Crespo, MD (back row, second from right); Christopher N. Faber, MD (not pictured); Kevin F. Gibson, MD (back row, left); Rachel J. Givelber, MD (back row, right); John W. Kreit , MD (seated, right); Alison Morris, MD, MS (not pictured); Joseph M. Pilewski, MD (back row, third from right); John J. Reilly Jr., MD (seated, left); Frank C. Sciurba, MD (back row, center); Ronald A. Stiller, MD (not pictured); Patrick J. Strollo Jr., MD, (back row, second from left); Joel H. Weinberg, MD (not pictured); and Sally E. Wenzel, MD (back row, third from left):

We are extremely proud of our success in basic, translational and clinical research. Our Division is one of the most highly funded Pulmonary Programs in the Nation, with more than 27 RO1 equivalents in NIH funding, two major pulmonary SCCOR grants, training grants in pulmonary and sleep medicine, and major Institutes and Centers focused on vascular biology, asthma, immunology, COPD, interstitial and advanced lung disease, lung transplantation and genetic medicine.

We invite you to explore all the aspects of our division through the various links below and on the side bar. By clicking on the clinical icon below, you will have the opportunity to examine our commitment to clinical excellence and patient care.  If you are interested in our fellowship opportunities, please click on the educational link of the triangle and tour the options available to you.  Please take a moment to evaluate our unique Bench-to-Bedside Translational Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship.
