I have a background in community outreach with a focus on cancer education and screening in underserved and minority populations. A key focus of my efforts is the development of community partnerships with community leaders, local health care providers, agencies and local residents, in order to collaboratively identify barriers to health care, which include cancer screening. I developed, implemented and continue to oversee the UPMC Cancer Centers Diversity Program which focuses on addressing cancer related disparities in newly diagnosed African Americans. The program has been critical in increasing patient compliance and entry into clinical trials. My research interest include health care disparities, decision making and motivation. I am currently conducting a pilot study "Exploration of Decision Making Processes of Individuals Regarding a Preventative Vaccine for Colorectal Cancer."
