Palliative Care Services Update

Effective May 1, 2010, the UPMC Palliative Care Program will change its name to the UPMC Supportive and Palliative Care Program to more accurately depict the services it provides.

The program is designed to improve the quality of life for each patient and his or her family members by relieving the burden of illness and ensuring that treatment plans are tailored to meet the patient's goals and values. These goals are accomplished by treating the patient's pain, anxiety, delirium, and other physical and psychological symptoms and by having a multidisciplinary group of doctors, nurses, social workers, psychologists, and ethicists work with patients and their families to help them deal with the stress and uncertainty of serious illness.
