PHCUP Holds Record-Breaking Auction and Announces Upcoming Fundraising Activities

The Program for Health Care to Underserved Populations (PHCUP) is grateful to the members of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine Classes of 2010 and 2011—better known as the Birmingham Auction Committee—for their generosity, effort, and energy in hosting the Third Annual Birmingham Clinic Auction on January 29, 2010. It is also grateful to the faculty, staff, and students who donated auction items, provided sponsorship, attended the auction, and bid big. This year, the student-initiated auction earned over $5,500 and broke the previous record for auction donations in support of the PHCUP's work at the Birmingham Clinic.

Tremendous thanks also go to faculty, residents, staff, and supporters from the Division of General Internal Medicine, the Eye and Ear Institute, and Cardiovascular Institute who donated during the PHCUP's Annual Letter Appeal this past winter. The appeal raised $3,000 to support the PHCUP and its clinical efforts in the community.

Get ready for the PHCUP's Annual Spring Veggie and Plant Sale. The sale will take place in the cafeteria lobbies at UPMC Presbyterian/Scaife and UPMC Montefiore during the week of May 3, 2010—just in time for Mother's Day and the start of the garden season.

If you would like to be placed on the e-mail notification list to receive information about these and other PHCUP sales and fundraising events, please send your e-mail address to If you are interested in volunteering at the PHCUP clinics, click here.
