Subject: Evaluating the VA's Assessment of Military Sexual Trauma in Veterans.
Principal Investigator: William Holmes, MD, MSCE, University of Pennsylvania.
Co-Principal Investigator: Susan Zickmund, PhD.
Sponsor: VA Health Services Research and Development (HSR&D) Service.
Purpose: This study will initiate evaluation of military sexual trauma (MST) case-finding procedures that are being used for thousands of veterans but have never been assessed for the most basic level of face and content validity. If the study finds that the current case-finding tool performs poorly among veterans or some subgroups of veterans, this finding will inform and guide what future steps should be taken to ensure that the next-generation assessment approach meets congressional and VA mandates and allows earlier identification of MST and intervention into MST-related outcomes.

Subject: Determinants of Diabetes Control in Veterans with Serious Mental Illness.
Principal Investigator: Judith Long, MD, University of Pennsylvania.
Site Principal Investigator: Adam J. Gordon, MD, MPH.
Sponsor: VA HSR&D Service.
Purpose: This study will provide insight into the use of co-located primary care as a means to improve diabetes-specific care and outcomes for veterans with serious mental illness.

Subject: Understanding Race and Culture in Living Donor Kidney Transplantation.
Principal Investigator: Larissa Myaskovsky, PhD.
Co-Principal Investigator: Galen E. Switzer, PhD.
Sponsor: VA HSR&D Service.
Purpose: This study will provide important insight into the cultural factors related to patients' decision making about living versus deceased donor kidney transplantation (LDKT vs DDKT). Understanding these factors is an essential step toward developing culturally tailored interventions to increase rates of LDKT among patients from minority groups. Interventions may also be targeted to increase the awareness of key cultural factors that play a role in patients' decision making about LDKT.
