Research Interest
Dr. Counihan investigates the efficacy and safety of erythropoetin and darbopoetin in animal models of ischemia and reperfusion. This research may lead to further therapies in humans to improve clinical outcomes.
Clinical Interest
Dr. Peter Counihan's interests include cardiovascular hemodynamics and the assessment of valvular heart disease. He has a particular interest in the evaluation and treatment of patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Dr. Counihan has treated selected patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy with alcohol septal ablation, a newer and less invasive technique in the therapy of these patients.
